FAQs about EMDR Training & Consultation
What is EMDR exactly?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a comprehensive psychotherapy that accelerates the treatment of a wide range of pathologies and self-esteem issues related to disturbing events and present life conditions. To learn more visit Three Rivers Training Center or watch this brief video.
Who are the trainers and what are their backgrounds?
Carol Miles MSW, LCSW is your lead trainer and depending on class size, trainings will also be facilitated by Charlene B. Spears, MSW, LCSW. For more information about their qualifications, expertise, and backgrounds visit Meet Your Trainers.
What does it cost to attend the training?
Information about training costs, including payment plan options, can be found here. Please note that 10 hours of consultation is included in the cost of training.
Who is eligible to attend?
Licensed Clinicians, Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Psychiatric ARNPs, and Graduate Students in Internship with active caseloads.
I am a student but have not yet started my internship or practicum. Can I still register for the training?
The EMDR International Association requires that students who register for the training be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program in the mental health field (Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychiatry, Psychiatric Nursing, Social Work) or related mental health discipline. Students must have completed their core graduate academic coursework and must be in the practicum/internship portion of their graduate program. Graduate students must be on a licensing track and working under the supervision of a fully licensed mental health clinician. As long as you meet the above criteria and will be starting your internship or practicum before the training takes place, you are eligible to register for the training.
Who sets the standards for attendance?
EMDRIA Sets the Standards for Attendance. For complete information, visit EMDRIA Training and Education.
What if I want additional consultation after EMDR Basic Training?
Great question. This is one of the best ways to grow as an EMDR practitioner. Carol works with both groups and individuals who wish to strengthen their skills, work towards EMDR certification, or just wish to have ongoing support as they gain confidence using EMDR with clients. For more information, visit Three Rivers Training Center or contact Carol at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once I finish EMDR Basic Training, will I be certified?
In short, not yet. This training is the beginning of the requirement to become EMDR Certified. Completing an EMDRIA approved EMDR Therapy Basic Training is the first requirement toward becoming EMDR Certified by EMDRIA, the EMDR professional organization. After completing an EMDRIA approved basic training in EMDR therapy you will receive a Certificate of Completion.
However, completing the Basic Training does not make the clinician certified in EMDR therapy. EMDRIA does offer a credential for therapist to become an EMDR Certified Therapist. Ask your trainer for more information to begin the path to certification and or visa EMDRIA to learn more.
